Sounds like you have a cross between a Crocus and a Poinsettia. My advise is to take good care of it, and go to the library and search

all the book you can, or take it to or call you local college {Horticulture Dept} and see what they can tell you. Mabe you have something no one else does. Do not give it to anyone, sounds really pretty. Good luck, wish I could see this mistery plant!
Reply:i would like to see plant. go to local nursery bring a flower with you. they will be able to tell you.

How to I care for my new (& newly planted) purple flowering plum tree?

Just planted it about two weeks ago. Live in Missouri.

How to I care for my new (%26amp; newly planted) purple flowering plum tree?
Make sure it never dries out the first few years. Don't over water just deep watering when it needs it. Mulch it with well rotted manures and organic matter (hay). Fertilize annually, and you should have a beautiful tree in no time. They are hardy and no problem to grow.
Reply:Water it weekly and protect it from deer who could rut on it. They will rub their antlers on the trunk and kill the tree. I lost a beautiful crabbapple that way. Wrap a mesh loosely around the trunk.

Where do purple flowers get their colours from?

Good question

Flower colors of red, pink, blue and purple come mainly from the pigments called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are water soluble pigments in the class of

chemicals called flavanoids, which are phenolics. Anthocyanins are found in the

cell vacuoles and are glucosides meaning they contain a sugar molecule.

A classic experiment uses the anthocyanins in red cabbage as a pH indicator

because anthocyanins change color depending on the pH. You could do the same

thing with flower petals. An easy way is to crush a red rose petal on a white

plate with the back of a spoon and add either vinegar (acid) or baking soda

(base) and note the color change. A college lab manual has an experiment on

chromatography of flower anthocyanins (Witham et al. 1971).

Flowers may also contain another class of pigments called carotenoids, which

are responsible for red in tomato and orange in carrot root. Carotenoids are

red, yellow and orange in color. They do not reside in the vacuole but in

organelles called plastids, either in green chloroplasts or in nongreen

chromoplasts

I DONT KNOW SORRY!
Reply:from biology point of view pigment anthocyanin is reponsible for it.

from physics point of view it shows this type of colour coz it reflects some part of the sun light falling on it which gives us purple colour appearence.

Try asking in chemistry. Not sure what you mean.

Where can I find floating candles with strings of fake flowers attached to the bottom to use as centerpieces?

I saw a centerpiece online awhile back and it was a tall cylinder glass filled with water and a disc (round) floating candle with a strand of small purple flowers hanging from the bottom of the candle. I want to use them as my centerpieces for my wedding. Please help!!

Where can I find floating candles with strings of fake flowers attached to the bottom to use as centerpieces?
arts and crafts store...
Reply:Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I think I know what you mean. However, what you saw was a tall cylinder glass vase....you can buy them many places...Here is a link:

Then, with the floating candle (as in the link above). However, there is not a strand of flowers hanging from the bottom of the candle itself....but, just a strand of garland flowers put into the vase before the candle is put in. Here is a picture of something similar:

There are many things people use. Look through more of the pictures on the Save-on-Crafts website. Also go to Michael's.com

Illuminations.com

Surroundings.com

All of these places have ideas and pctures and various garlands and flowers that you can buy to float in the cylinder vase. I DO love the look of that type of centerpiece.

Good luck!

Transferring ground flowers to a pot?

I just took a walk around the house outside and found some of the prettiest purple flowers. They are gorgeous! The only problem is, they're off to the side of our driveway and I'm afraid that some neighbors may kill them! I'd really like to transfer them into a regular pot. What are the best methods for taking ground plants and making them into potted ones? Will this little guy have any chance of surviving if I keep it watered and tended to every day? What are some tips and tricks you would use? Thank you!

Transferring ground flowers to a pot?
what can it hurt to try.. if the neigbors are gonna kill 'em anyway.

Get good potting soil and a pot larger than the plant's root mass. place the root mass in the potting soil and water it well. keep the plants in the same light conditions that they were in before and keep the plants watered and add some fertilizer after you see that they will be OK...

Hope for the best..

good luck!
Reply:I would get a large enough planter. Put some rocks in the bottom, put your plant in, and add potting soil. Then just water and feed it regularly.
Reply:I've done this many times. Just dig widely around the base. Loosen the dirt with water (do not damage the roots) Put it in a pot with potting soil. Water with miracle grow. Or, you could move it to a safer place in your yard. Same way.

What can I use to poison the purple flowered tibouchina plant?

I have tried drilling deep holes and pouring in blackberry poison and have also tried roundup. I have also chopped some of the roots. I don't just want to cut it down and leave a stump I want to totally get rid of it. It's trunk is fairly large and has many main roots sprouting off the base. Any suggestions I would be apprecaitive. thanks

What can I use to poison the purple flowered tibouchina plant?
Why not try digging a hole under the roots in the ground and start a fire under it to see if you can kill it that way and to burn the root and trunk system otherwise you may have to get someone in with a stump grinder but that will probably cost a bit of money.
Reply:If its trunk and roots are as sprawling as you have suggested, it is most likely mis-identified as they are shrubs (Tibouchina urvilleana) and do not develop as you have suggested.
