What are the trees you see in bay area highways that are all purple flowers and smell good called??

If the blossoms are large and sweet smelling..I would say it is the Tulip Tree.

Tulip trees are generally white and pink.





Purple crepe myrtles if under 20' and jacaranda (not sure of spelling but they are all over Glendale and Pasadena) if really tall. They have bell like flowers that drop all over the road and cars...gorgeous and messy like a small little girl.
Reply:In hotter areas they might be Jacaranda trees:http://images.google.com/images?hl=en%26amp;rl... . I've read that they are fragrant.
