Help!! In this same cactus, purple flowers are dominant to yellow flowers. A cactus that has both...?

... two-pronged and one-pronged spines has yellow flowers. It is crossed with a two-pronged cactus with purple flowers (heterozygous). What are the phenotypes of the offspring and in what proportion?

Help!! In this same cactus, purple flowers are dominant to yellow flowers. A cactus that has both...?
Your question does not provide enough info to give a proper answer. We would also need to know:

(1) Is flower color controlled by a single gene (simple dominance) or multiple genes (complex dominance)?

(2) What is the dominant/recessive situation RE two-pronged vs. one-pronged spines? Is this a simple or complex gene dominance situation?

(3) Are the genes for flower color and spine prong number linked in some way, or completely unlinked.

Regardless of the answers to these questions, the mathematics involved could get pretty hairy. I would hazard a guess that you are enrolled in a class that is over your head or (more likely, based on my experience with biology professors in general) that your professor is a simpleton and has asked an unanswerable question.

A lady told me her pretty purple flowers in her yard were called"gay Feathers", whats their botanical name?

Liatris, of course you know that particular type is purple, but they are also available in white and pink. Liatris are one of the only plants the bloom from the top down as opposed to bottom up. Most also grow to be about 3 feet in height.

The answerers are correct to a point.

Hyacinths are bulbs but you'll still have to provide the right conditions for them to bloom again.

How to let purple Calla Lily flower grows again with color ?

I bought some Calla Lily plant from a flower shop. It has several purple flowers. I grow it indoor near the window. After

How to let purple Calla Lily flower grows again with color ?
I just received a calla for my anniversary. The green growth is probably new flowers. Actually , callas are outside plants. If you are lucky and depending on where you live, if you plant it outside, it may come back next year. I have never grown one inside. They grow from corms, which is similiar to a bulb. I worked in a flower shop for years.Good luck. oh, as long as it is blooming, I would cut the blooms and put them in a vase. Very little water or they will drown due to hollow stems. 2inches per 5 blooms. This also sigmals the plant to keep in blooming for awhile. The flowers can last up to two weeks in water!
Reply:More artificial light and longer hour can't help you.
Reply:You can't. The bulb is done. Retire it, and wait for the next blossoming cycle.

The ants are after the aphids on your plant. Buy and spray the leaves on top and bottom with Insecticidal Soap.

Who knows what plant this really is - it has strange purple flowers, makes balls full of seeds & grows in vine

Could be a passion flower, or in the south, a common weed, called May-Pop. It is a Vine.

Sounds like a clematis to me.
Reply:I think what you are describing is a Clematis. They are a beautiful vining flower. I hope this helps.
Reply:Is it perchance, an Angel's Trumpet? I have grown Angel's Trumpet's in my Garden and they are a muted purple. The flowers are only in bloom for about a day, but they are big. Much bigger than a standard flower, almost like a huge petunia. After they have bloomed they produce a spiny pod that contains seeds.

Or there is a plant that produces purple flowers that look like loose pompoms and they are called Monarda. They are a wild flower and related to Bergamot. They produce pods but only on top of where the flower is.

There is also the Shoo Fly Plant, it too produces purple flowers with white in the middle. It is a hearty self seeder and considered a weed.

Identify purple flowers?

Each plant is less than an inch tall. Each leaf and each flower is less than a quarter inch in diameter. The flowers are bright light purple. They grow by the millions among ordinary grass. If you pluck one, you don't get much of a stem, because there are leaves all up and down the stem. There are about twice as many leaves as flowers, but the overall impression is of light purple blue flowers rather than green leaves, because the flowers stand out more. These flowers grow very close together, in big patches, giving an impression of light purple fabric.

They grow a few miles south of the Ohio river in west central Kentucky.

I haven't been in this area before, so I don't know how common these flowers are. I might be surrounded by a million people who know the name of these flowers, and I might be the only one who doesn't.

The petals have small dark purple markings, covering only a small fraction of the face of the petal, so the overall color is still light purple.

Identify purple flowers?
Dilbert, It sounds a lot like the wild violet. I live in the area you mentioned and they are very common here. I guess that they are pretty much a weed, but more like wild flowers to me. Some people try pretty hard to get rid of them, but I don't see that they cause much problem.

Wild violet is a winter perennial, growing 2 - 5 inches tall. It can have a tap root or a fibrous root system, and also can produce rooting stolons and rhizomes. The leaves can vary but usually are heart shaped, on long petioles with scalloped to shallow rounded margins.

The flowers of wild violet range from white to blue to purple and appear from March to June. Wild violet flowers are pansy-like with three lower petals and two lateral petals on long single flower stalks.

Wild violets are found throughout the United States, except for the Rocky Mountains. Wild violets are more common where they are sold as ornamental ground covers.

This link has a picture, but I haven't found a good one. They come in different colors, but the ones we have are a darker purple or violet.

I have a perfect circle of small purple wild flowers growing in my front yard. What causes it?

In Celtic folklore it is called a fairy ring. According to tradition you are to enter the ring and stand in the center. Then turn around three times while making a wish. If the fairies find you worthy they will grant your wish. In reality no one can tell you for certain how it happens. But it does happen naturally without human intervention. Most of the time it is mushrooms that grow in circles. Flowering plants are very rare to do this. It can be caused by gopher tunnels or a whirl wind at seed spawn. If you have children let them make a wish and enjoy it.

I have a perfect circle of small purple wild flowers growing in my front yard. What causes it?
Fairies
Reply:It starts with one, which spreads its seeds in a circle. The circle grows with generations.
Reply:These are not flowers, they are weeds. I know that mushrooms grow in circles because the majority of the fungus is underground and grows in a circular pattern there. Possibly, your weeds also pertain to this. Hope i helped! : )
Reply:If the leaves look like a spade (cards), then it is wild violets. If you want to get rid of them without harming grass then spray weed and brush killer on it. Regular weed spray (24D) will not kill it, you need something with Triclopyr in it to get rid of it. Good Luck

combination 1 )

-%26gt;calla lilies (deep purple)

-%26gt; freesia (pink)

-%26gt; lisianthus ( dark blue purple to light purple )

-%26gt;sweet peas( light blue purple )

-%26gt;roses ( light purple)
Reply:depending on what you're using the boquet for, if it is a casual just because boquet purple violets or mountain hyacinth are a deep purple but small flowers and quite short-stemmed. Ummm, also something called a "spider flower" are very unique and very pretty. I don't know the latin name for them but I grow them in my flower bed and gets tons of compliments on how interesting and pretty they are. If it is more of a formal type try the purplish shades of roses and/or orchids.
Reply:Depends on the purpose of the bouquet. If that picture you have posted is of a fabric for bridesmaids then you need something that can stand up to a beating on wedding day. Iris blossoms are too delicate for that. If it's for inside, like for decorating a room, then an arrangement of silk flowers would be great. You can have your pick at a craft shop like Michael's or a department store like Wal- Mart. Take a swatch of the fabric when you go and you'll be able to match and contrast at will. Just be aware that the lighting can make a difference in how the colours look.

Name of sticker? it starts out with little purple flowers in the spring...then turns into dime size clusters?
Aha...you have the infamous garden thistle growing in your yard!!! They will grow taller and taller if you let them but don't let them because once the thistle produces the pretty purple flowers, it goes to seed and you know what is next!!! MORE THISTLES!! These can be killed with ROUNDUP or you can dig them up being very careful to get the taproot. I would probably go with the Roundup if you can keep from getting the Roundup on other nearby plants or grasses. Roundup will kill everything but it will also do away with those awful thistles. There are other weed killers that you can use that won't kill your grass, but since we don't know what kind of grass your lawn is, I would suggest going to the local CO OP (Farmers Co-Operative) in your area and ask them the best thing to kill thistle and other weeds like that and won't hurt your grass. I am sure there are several good products out there that will work. Good luck to you!!!!
Reply:I have the same things.. I believe they are "goat heads" and the only thing I have found to fix them is to dig them up you need to get the whole root..it takes me a long while..but so worth it..I was told that you can spray a weed killer on it but it will kill anything else it comes in contact with..

find out what kind of flower and you can get super specific with what might be going on...if its a hydrangea they change flower colors with the pH of the soil... to my knowledge its one of the few that will change colors that are popular here...if she sowed seed its possible that it was a cross pollination or something... but without more details its hard to answer this question right... hope i helped at least

This is the first year we have grown basil there are dark purple flowers on top do I cut them off?

Yes, cut the blossoms off, this will make the plant produce more leaves, harvest leaves often to keep plant from going to seed. If you alow it to bloom seeds will form and take most of the energy from leaves.

This is the first year we have grown basil there are dark purple flowers on top do I cut them off?
Yes, pinch them off regulary. This will stimulate the plant to "Bush" out. Also pick the leaves regularly as well. Dry them and crumble them up and store in an air tight container. Nothing better for hearty soup season come winter...and way fresher than store bought.
Reply:Cut or pinch all flowers off, preferably before they bloom. Also, take a few of the leaves to use in your recipes. Keeping the flowers from blooming will make your plant produce more growth, pinching out a few of the top leaves and stems will make it bush out. Hope this helps.
Reply:The plant's mission is to flower, so when it does it'll start to slow down producing leafes. Cut off flowers

What are some names of Purple Tropical Flowers?

"Among the various kinds of purple tropical flowers, mention may be made of Sacred Lilac (Melia azedarach). This plant belongs to the mahogany family and is a favorite hub of birds that cherish the fruits of this purple tropical plant. A sacred lilac, though hails from Asia, is now profoundly found in the forests of United States. They serve the purpose of a good insecticide and are thus used in a rampant scale.

Another important purple tropical flower is Buddleia 'Black Knight'. Petals of these flowers are dark blue in color and so bees come flocking towards them and so does the butterflies. These purple tropical flowers bloom from mid summer to early fall and these plants love to bask in the sunlight. To top it all, a black knight also has an intoxicating fragrance. Orchids, too, has their special species of purple tropical flower called Phalaenopsis orchids and Dendrobium orchids. A dendrobium orchid can survive in all kinds of atmosphere like, the humid zones of Asia to the hot, dry stretches of Australian desert.

A Phalaenopsis orchid, better known as moth orchid, is common among all florists. For their outwardly beauty, these purple tropical flowers are widely used for keeping in vases. Datura is another important purple tropical flower with wide shaped petals. Know more about tropical flowers from the pages of Dgreetings.com. "

What flowers to use for a royal purple wedding color?

I like the idea of having my bridesmaids in royal purple gowns, and having royal purple linen tablecloths. I was thinking of having either a bright green centerpiece (I saw a gorgeous green flower somewhere, forgot what it's called) or tiger lilies, so it pops against the purple. And of course the BM bouquets would be that color too. What do you think?

OR

Should I do white table cloths with tall purple orchid centerpieces?

What flowers to use for a royal purple wedding color?
Purple linens may be hard to come by, and will probably be much more expensive than white- I like the idea of the purple as an accent against the white. Don't necessarily limit yourself to orchids, either- delphiniums come in an incredible deep velvety purple that might be the perfect thing, and there's a purple freesia that's very lovely and rich, too. Then you could have the bridesmaids carrying green bouquets and yours could be heavy on the purple- that sounds quite striking.

Whatever you decide, have a lovely wedding!
Reply:I would definitly go with the purple, its such a pretty color. you can also use bright pink flowers to pop against the purple, i think i know what green your talking about and it would look great! you can also do the purple tablecloths and use light purple orhcids in a tall vase that lights up. Good luck!
Reply:I like the thought of an accent color, makes it more elegant. The white tablecloths with the purple orchid sounds awesome!! congrats!
Reply:If the bridesmaids are having purple gowns, they should have only a few purple flowers as accents, otherwise it wouldn't look nice. Either have a mixed bouquet or something like bright pink stargazer lilies with purple alstromeria or something, maybe with purple trailing ribbons.

I would definitely stick with the colored tableclothes though...it definitely adds a nice ton and richness to the room.

I hope this helps! Sounds like it is going to be beautiful!

Any ideas for purple flowers in a October wedding?

I used silk flowers also. We were on a tight budget so my future mom in law and I made the flower arrangements. we used silk hydrangeas, lilies and lilacs. We used different shades of purple and lavender ribbons to tie it all together. For the men's boutonniere's we used a white rose with a purple ribbon back ground. the men wore gray tuxes with lavender cummerbunds. the brides maids wore dresses in shades of purple. It looked really nice.

You went into Mendels Garden and stole pea plant with the dominant trait, purple flowers. How would you....?

....testcross it?

A. Mate it with a plant of unknown genotype

B. Mate it with a plant with white flowers

C. Mate it with both its parents

D. Mate it with a plant of unknown phenotype

E. Mate it with itself

You went into Mendels Garden and stole pea plant with the dominant trait, purple flowers. How would you....?
B.

A test cross is one where you cross an individual with a completely homozygous recessive genotype.
Reply:B, you are performing a testcross with a homozygous recessive plant. Then you can analyze the ratios and figure out what is going on.

I'm getting ready to plant flowers. Do you know of some pretty purple flowers I can plant? Size doesnt matter.

Purple is my favorite color. I have several varities of flowers in my beds.

2. Cosmos (fushia color)

3. Petunias

4. Bachelors Buttons (blueish purple)

5. Hydrengas

I'm getting ready to plant flowers. Do you know of some pretty purple flowers I can plant? Size doesnt matter.
first of all you did not give enough information are you wanting ideas for annuals or perennials are you wanting ideas for pots or in the ground or all annuals are flowers that bloom usually one season and die but some do self seed on the other hand perennials are flowers that come up year after year in a permanent place in the flower bed usually just get bigger each year and then about every 2-4 years needs to be divided to make more plants to put in other places in your flower bed I think there is more purple flowers than any other color and then you did not say if it is a sunny or shady place(big difference)

annuals sunny wave petunia, lobelia, viola, salvia, ageratum, and alysum these will do good in a sunny location in pots and in the ground now perennials are a whole different ballgame and a much bigger palette so here are a few of my favorites hardy geranium, veronica, campunula, salvia delphniums just to name a few now we did not even get into climbers or bulbs so many different flowers go to wayside gardens . com or park seed and see what interests you GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Cosmos is fast growing and requires little care.

Reply:Right now my favorite purple flower is the columbine. The colors can be really deep and the shape is interesting.

I have some purple silk flowers if I bleach them can I get them light enough to dye them pink?

Worth a try. Test with one peddle first. Or, if they are inexpensive or something you won't use anyway, just go for it. If it does take color out, it may take out just enough to leave them pink or some mix of pink and purple that is so unique.

Another suggestion is to simply paint with pink fabric paint thinned to flow easily.

I have some purple silk flowers if I bleach them can I get them light enough to dye them pink?
I doubt it. The fabric that "silk" flowers are made from is generally not of very high quality and I would be afraid they would disintegrate with the bleach. Additionally, I assume you would be getting bleach on the plastic stems, etc, which could bleed onto the flower petals.

On the other hand, you may have nothing to lose by giving it a try on one flowers to see what would happen.

Seems to me the better thing to do is to find the right color in the first place or perhaps a white flower that you could spray paint (with floral paint) the shade of pink you want.
Reply:why wouldnt you just buy pink flowers?
Reply:There is actually spray paint for dried flowers that will work on silks, too. I think the bleach will ruin them. Sometimes the leaves and also the "veins"on the stems and petals are only glued on and will fall off if too wet. Go to a floral supply to find the paint, it comes in many colors. Use it very lightly from a greater distance than you would usually use spray paint. Kind of "wave" it over the flowers and let it mist on more than soak it with paint.
Reply:Don't do it, it will ruin the fabric and probably bleach all the colour from them. there are commerical sprays you can buy to change the colour or you could just buy pink flowers.

Weeds with little purple flowers are speading in my Bermuda grass...making small clusters of little stickers..

what can i use to kill them without harming the grass? they are very thick and i have a large yard so i can't pull them or start over with a new lawn..

Weeds with little purple flowers are speading in my Bermuda grass...making small clusters of little stickers..
Is this crown vetch? Take a picture of it (or, better yet, a sample) to the local agricultural extension office. They can tell you what the weed is and the best product to kill it without damaging your yard. Without knowing the weed first, any answer is going to be a shot in the dark and may hurt your lawn without hurting the weed. Even Round-up doesn't necessarily kill all weeds!
Reply:go to your garden center, someone who sells FERTILOME

products, and get some weed and feed in the fall and broadcast your lawn, and they want be their next year and then do this every year.
Reply:they sound nice why dont you leave them for the wild life?
Reply:I have 40 acres of coastal Bermuda that I harvest for hay each year. There is an herbicide on the market called 24d that I have applied annually. You have to have an applicators license to apply it so you will have to hire someone to apply it for you. 24d will kill just about everything except the Bermuda grass.
Reply:Sounds like you have what we call goat heads, I would use Ortho Weed be gone or Roundup on them. Ortho is user and grass Friendly as to Roundup kills anything it comes in contact with.

A basket contains only white, purple, and orange flowers. The probability of randomly selecting a white....?

....flower is 1/6, and the probability of randomly selecting a purple flower is 1/8. Which of the following could be the total number of flowers in the basket?

a. 14

b. 18

c. 24

d. 30

e. 38

A basket contains only white, purple, and orange flowers. The probability of randomly selecting a white....?
24, because 24 is a multiple of 6 and a multiple of 8.
Reply:24 since it is the only number that is divisible by 6 and 8
Reply:If you make sure that you have only whole flowers and not pieces of flowers (LOL) it would be 24 because 24 is the smallest (least) common denominator between 1/6 and 1/8. 24 is both a multiple of 6 and 8 and is the first time the positve multiples of 6 and 8 cross ( and also is the only crossing point in the given answers). for 1/6 and 1/8 to be true at the same time, the total must be a crossing point (LCD, etc.).
Reply:can be 24....the only number divisible by 8 and 6.............

Tulip trees are generally white and pink.

Purple crepe myrtles if under 20' and jacaranda (not sure of spelling but they are all over Glendale and Pasadena) if really tall. They have bell like flowers that drop all over the road and cars...gorgeous and messy like a small little girl.

What are the flowers called that have the white petals and purple centers?

I had them last year in my garden and I can't remember what those flowers are called. I've also seen them with orange petals and purple centers. They kind of look like shasta daisies. The one thing I know for sure is that it's not a cone flower.

In Maryland, what are the trees that have purple trumpet-like flowers & the leaves get big like elephant ears?

The trumpet like flowers are only in the Spring and the "horn" part points downward. I've heard these trees nicknamed "elephant ear trees" and also heard this is the wood most commonly used now for piano keys (versus the old fashioned ivory). they are common in Harford county and can grow like 50' tall. What in the dickens are they called?

In Maryland, what are the trees that have purple trumpet-like flowers %26amp; the leaves get big like elephant ears?
I agree with the above, Paulownia tree. Actually Paulownia is the genus name for many different species found around the work, but mostly China and other Asian countries.

The genus was names in honor of Queen Anna Pavlovna of The Netherlands (1795–1865), daughter of Tsar Paul I of Russia.

Paulownia fortunei is a fast-growing tree that is grown commercially for the production of hardwood timber, but in this country it is mainly an ornamental growing multiple feet a year.

Paulownia tomentosa is listed as an invasive species in the southeastern United States, having been introduced there as an ornamental tree for its decorative flowers.

It is important to know what Paulownia you are planting. While bother are fast growing, the P. tomentosa can escape cultivation in milder areas, that is it becomes a weed displacing native plants.

Here's a website you might enjoy.

http://www.dragontrees.com/dragonbe.html
Reply:Cottonwood trees is what we sometimes call them down here (but most commonly, elephant ear trees), but in nurseries they are called Paulownia. I'm sure it's the same one that you're talking about though, purple trumpet blooms in spring, leaves can easily get 12" across and have a kind of...furry texture on top, for lack of a better word. The backs of the leaves are sometimes kind of sticky. They get HUGE and grow quick.

Reply:this may sound crazy but check it out....i plant monochromatic bulbs in my garden every year and this year i did purple and white. Think about tulips....I grew these tulips that were so dark purple they were almos midnight....and next to the creamy white of the other tulips they looked even more brilliant. If you choose tulips, (make sure you check all the different types...there are some that have flame shaped leaves, and some that look like roses) tell your florist to 'wrap them high'....they will open really fast and the florist tape will help keep the blooms high. Then, with the really dark purple and white, you could add some lavender without it being overpowering.....good luck and have a GREAT wedding....
Reply:Dark purple flowers eh? In a lot of species they call the very dark purple ones 'black'. Knowing that might help you looking for your colour...?

Helpfully for you, many flowers that have 'black' varieties also have white ones.

These are some that you should be able to order from a florist. Most of them come in all sorts of colours, so you'd have to be specific when you arrange your order;

Calla Lily; very dark purple, also come in white

Gladioli; very dark purple, also white

Daylily; dark purple

Iris; very dark purple, also white

Lisianthus; dark purple, also white

Delphiniums; white (through blue to darker blue- think possibly even dark purple)

Anemone; beautiful. if a little small. Also come in white

Sweet William: small, scented, dark colours and white.

Statice ( I personally think this stuff is horrid dry looking and scratchy... but each to their own)

Aster; kind of daisy, also white

and a few that might be trickier to source;

Buddleia; which might be tricky to get unless you have it growing in your garden or near to you. Smells divine and is a nice spire shape. Also come in white

Lilac; ditto tricky, but definitely has dark purple varieties and once again smells divine. Also come in white

Sweet pea; dark and beautifully scented

Hollyhock; dark purple

Petunia; come in very dark purple but isn't any good cut... maybe good as part of a table or other decoration in its pot?

if i were you I'd put any of those flower names into the search field on http://images.google.co.uk

with a colour description like 'black' or 'purple' and see what you like the look of.

best of luck :)
Reply:If you are looking for elegance in your wedding flowers then Calla Lilies are a good choice - their shape is perfect for elegant bouquet styles - try Calla Lily's Picasso or Purple Haze.

Roses are also a good choice for a classic elegant style bouquet - Blue Curiosa or Cool Water roses have a blue tone (try putting these names into google for these images then you can get an idea of what they look like)

Alternatively the modern style of the Calla lily combines perfectly with the traditional rose to create a contemporary classic - or for a more contemporary look perhaps you might like Vanda Orchids which are beautiful.

To add your unique style consider adding gorgeous ribbon or diamante to your wedding bouquet for extra wow factor.

Your florist should also be able to give you lots of ideas - make sure you let them know exactly what style you are looking for and take along pictures of what you like.
Reply:there are bright purple flowers that look like daisy's tha are nice and would look nice for yor wedding and also there are white rosees you can use or get the special painted with an aersol some places can do that. just choose the flower you want and they can aersol them on the ends and it will look awsome but it depends where you live there is also orchids in a colr purple those are really nice
Reply:Petunias come in purple and white and they smell great too!!!
Reply:I love Carnations. They aren't very expensive (always an issue) and they are hearty and sturdy for bouquets. They also have a very pleasing scent. To this day I still think of my cousin's wedding when I smell one. I was the flower girl some 30 years ago. Her colors were maroon and pink. Her wedding was very elegant, even in retrospect. You can get carnations in almost any color, and they look beautiful with roses, should you want to infuse a few into your bride bouquet with some baby's breath.
